East London has one of the best beaches in SA - hidden gems. The beaches are not too big, so you don't have to walk for ages to get to the water. It's not too long, so it keeps its cosy feel. The corner and cliffs protects the beach goers from the west wind, whilst on the other side is Nahoon river which is protected from the east wind and is ideal for a volleyball game or sundowners. Good waves can be found, plus the Indian Ocean water is always warm. And at 5pm every day, it's full of families walking their doggies

The East London Natural History gallery features the original coelacanth - a prehistoric fish that has lived in the Indian Ocean for 400 million years, thought to be extinct until it was re-discovered in 1938.
The discovery of a live coelacanth in the East London harbour was regarded internationally as the most significant zoological find of the century, which makes the East London Museum, open on every day of the year except Christmas day and Good Friday, worth a visit to see this specimen alone.

East London is a historical city in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. Although relatively small, it has always been a valuable resource for the country, as it is home to South Africa's only river port. This made it particularly accessible in times past, when water travel was of primary importance.
